Automatic tee-time reminders

Set up a message once and have it fire for every tee time — before the round, after the round, or when a member's pass is issued — with timing and personalised text.

Updated 7/27/2026

Automatic reminders are messages you set up once that then fire for every tee time, with no further work from you. They appear right on the golfer's wallet pass at the moment you choose. You manage them on the Automatic notifications page.

This is different from a one-off push: you're not sending a single message, you're setting a rule that runs itself for every round, forever, until you turn it off.

The three moments

GolfPass gives you a ready-made template for each of the moments that matter. Each one starts switched off — you turn on the ones you want.

  • Before tee time — a nudge ahead of the round. "See you at {course} in 1 hour, {player_name}." This is the one golfers value most.
  • After tee time — a thank-you once the round wraps up. "Thanks for playing {course} today, {player_name}." A warm touch that costs you nothing once set.
  • After a player pass is issued — a welcome the moment a member saves their pass. Great for onboarding new members.

Turning one on

    1. Go to Automatic notifications.
    2. Find the template for the moment you want — it shows as a draft, switched off.
    3. Either Enable it as-is, or Customize it first to change the wording and timing.
    4. Once enabled, it fires automatically for every applicable tee time from then on.

You're not limited to the three templates — you can also add your own reminders from the same page.

Setting the timing

A reminder fires a number of minutes relative to its moment:

  • Before tee time — minutes before the tee time (60 = one hour before).
  • After tee time — minutes after the round's end.
  • After a player pass is issued — minutes after the pass is created.

Pick an offset that fits how golfers behave at your club. An hour before is a sensible default for the pre-round nudge; a couple of hours after works for the thank-you.

Personalising the message

Reminders support merge tags — placeholders that get filled in for each golfer when the message sends. The available tags are:

  • {course} — the course name
  • {tee_time} — the golfer's tee time
  • {player_name} — the golfer's name

While editing, click a tag to drop it into your message. For example, "See you at {course} in 1 hour, {player_name}" becomes "See you at Pine Valley in 1 hour, Jane" for that golfer.

Choosing who gets it

By default a reminder reaches every golfer with a tee time. To narrow it — say, only members, or only a particular tier — point the reminder at a saved segment built from your Lightspeed Golf data.

Choosing platforms

Each reminder can target Apple, Google, or both. Leaving both on reaches every golfer regardless of phone, which is usually what you want.

Start with the before tee time reminder set to about an hour before — it's the highest-value message you can send and it's appreciated rather than annoying. Add the after-round thank-you once you've seen how the first one lands.

Reminders vs one-off pushes

  • Reminders are automatic and tied to tee times. Set once, run forever.
  • A push notification is a one-off announcement to people who already hold a pass.

Use reminders for the predictable rhythm of every round; use pushes for the things that come up.
